A prankster in a rubber Halloween mask and silly robes goes after his best friend in the middle of the night with a phony alien abduction. The costumes would struggle to fool anyone in daylight, and not many people believe in aliens anyway. The video is worth watching because of how little it takes to make the prank work.
Darkness, light and sound do the work, not the costume
The prank runs after dark, so the edges of the masks and robes are hard to make out. Eerie light and creepy noises from a sound machine fill in the rest. Somehow it looks believable.
How to run a night scare without it going wrong
- Pick a friend who enjoys a jump scare. Skip anyone with a heart condition, anyone who panics easily and anyone who might swing at whatever is closest.
- Keep the setting safe. A dark room with furniture to trip over is a bad place to make someone jump.
- End it fast. Take the mask off and say it was a prank as soon as the reaction peaks.
- Film only if your friend agrees afterward.
Make your own spooky audio
The noises are half of the effect. The Scary Sounds board has eerie effects you can play from a phone hidden in the next room.
