The Viral Brothers usually prank each other. Here they bring in a friend and aim a sick and twisted joke at members of the public instead. The idea is borrowed from William Friedkin's classic horror movie The Exorcist, and it shows why our old write-up called them some of the internet's top pranksters.
A famous movie scene, moved to the street
The spider walk is one of the best-known images in The Exorcist: a possessed figure moving backward on all fours in a way no body should. Staging it for real turns a film reference into something a passer-by has to react to with no warning. The prank works because the audience has already seen the original and knows how frightening it is meant to be.
Why film horror translates so well to pranks
- The image is instantly readable. Nobody needs the plot explained.
- The movement is physical and strange, so it holds attention even from a distance.
- A friend in the role keeps the stunt small and cheap. The crew needs only an actor, a location and a camera.
Do it as a fan, not as a threat
Please do not scare strangers this way. People can panic, fall or run into traffic, and a prank that ends in an injury is not a prank. If you like the genre, the Scary Sounds board lets you stage a harmless spooky moment with friends who are expecting it.
